Project Overview
The 120 MW / 960 MWh Barrel Cactus Energy Storage facility will provide energy and capacity services to the SRP grid, enhancing grid reliability. The project will abide by the most stringent design and cutting-edge safety standards to ensure the project maximizes benefits to SRP and the West Valley.
Construction of the Barrel Cactus facility is anticipated to start in 2029. The 2031 completion of the facility will ensure that SRP meets its reliability needs and reaches its goals to add 1.5 GW of new battery resources to its system by 2035.
Situated along a major transmission corridor feeding the Agua Fria Substation, the site’s location in an area with major utility infrastructure minimizes environmental impacts. Barrel Cactus’ site location is optimal for new energy infrastructure as it does not require long transmission lines to connect the facility to the power grid and is complementary to surrounding land uses.
